6 Simple Yet Effective Animations

Minimalism is top of the trend in many things, including interior design and art. It is now even embraced in animated marketing – considered to offer swift innovation, appeal to a wide audience, and achieve results.
There are a huge variety of ways to advertise and explain with animation, not just with traditional stop motion and whiteboard, but also the most high-tech CGI.
Below is a selection of some of my favourite simple yet successful animated adverts.
There may not appear to be much to look at in this animation; yet it captivates you and even has an emotional effect.
This animation – which really shows the great potential of simplicity – was created by Apple. The crisp, sleek images and sophisticated style fit appropriately with the typical characteristics of Apple products. It is this well-directed targeting that is important in retaining the key audience.
Pleasant music, simple colours and text are harmonised in a way that generates emotion and presents a strong brand image.
A pure and simple concept is again applied to this advert for Rolls Royce. It effectively combines class, intricacy and lively music – characteristics that resonate with the brand’s typical consumer.
You may not immediately think of animation as sleek and stylish, but this video shows that this is perfectly possible with the advanced techniques available these days. This animation is testament to what can be achieved with imagination and innovation. There is indeed a lot of work involved in creating this type of animated video, but all that is presented to the viewer is a feeling of relaxation and inspiration.
In an increasingly busy world, this escape from the daily bustle and overwhelming marketing is hugely inviting.
Animation offers a creative and unique way to attract your target market and present a desirable image. The medium is not all about quirky cartoons – any style can be achieved – so, let your imagination go wild and let the positive results roll.
- Snappy Infographics
This video consists of just some simple infographics; yet, in a short time, it tells the viewer everything they need to know about Dropbox.
This information storage tool is now widely used throughout the world. Since making this video and using it on their landing page, the company increased conversion rates by 10%. Even as a start-up company at the time, Dropbox attracted 750,000 viewings of its animation in a month. It also enjoyed several thousand extra sign-ups per day.
This easy-to-watch video shows just how much more simple and engaging it is to learn something via an animation rather than reading text. When viewers understand, watch to the end and are left inspired by an explainer video, they are far more likely to make a conversion.
Not only can an animated video be great for telling consumers about your product and increasing sales, but it can retain visitors on your webpage and boost SEO too.
- Creativity and Originality
Sometimes, live action video can limit your creativity. Animation, on the other hand, enables you to set free your imagination, step out of the box and be original.
Traditional stop motion is now used in wonderfully captivating new ways, and digital whiteboard allows for clear and low-cost videos.
Although state-of-the art 3D motion graphics offer new opportunities, new and expensive techniques are not necessary to create something unique. As an example, take a look at this stop motion animation, made with nail art, to advertise the Kia Picanto.
This animation is quirky and different, which is one of the best ways to reach out to any audience. This approach is great for attracting attention, retaining attention and sharing your message.
The Kia Picanto is small and popular with female consumers, so the advert uses creative techniques that will appeal to this niche. This is something viewers will likely remember when making their car purchasing choice in the future.
Another fantastic benefit of animation is the array of striking colours and shapes that can be used, fused and played around with.
This marketing video for Elephant India Holidays grabs viewers’ attention with inspiring movement, bold shapes and vibrant colours. The animation lasts only 45 seconds, but it communicates all key information. It is this engaging and creative appeal that renders viewers comfortable to watch a marketing message to the end.
When you have only a small amount of important information to explain, animation can be used even more freely and creatively. This abstract video demonstrates this perfectly.
An animated video can quite easily be more uplifting than a live action video.
At Spiel, we collaborated with Barking Mad to produce this endearing animation. It uses very simple 2D animation, bright colours and a friendly voiceover to give a pleasant feel. A cute dog is the main character makes it even more comforting and appealing.
There is also some humour injected in the animation to provide an added appeal. Humour can encourage viewers to stay watching. In this case, more people will learn about the unique service Barking Mad offers.
These advertisements and explainer videos demonstrate just some of the effective ways you can use simple animation to promote a brand or product.
There are plenty more promotional videos out there that use animation in an inspirational way to raise awareness and explain. Do you have a favourite? We’d love to hear about it in our comments section provided below.
