Speak Volumes with a Silent Animation

Animated videos can express so much without saying a word. In these videos, music and moving images can transport viewers into another dimension, cultivating emotions, entertaining, creating suspense, and engaging them to the end of the animation.
Nowadays, we are inspired by images more than ever. The internet and developments in multimedia are presenting us with more and more visual stimulation, which arouse viewers in many ways. Animated videos can be used for anything from marketing a new product to raising awareness of an issue that is worthy of more attention.
There are so many ways to convey a message with animation, and sometimes doing this without words can be incredibly powerful.
Research giant, Forrester, concluded that the first 60 seconds of a video is worth 1.8 million words. To put that into perspective, that is approximately 3,600 web pages, which would take many hours or even days to read through! So videos in general can express a massive amount in a very short time. With that in mind, for many purposes, you can afford to simplify an animated video by cutting out words and expressing meanings with pure imagery. This can portray a very focused and influential message.
Modern Silent Movies
The Academy Award winning video below shows just how powerful silent animated short movies can be today. Dolby partnered with Moonbot studios to create Silent with the latest CGI technology, showing how far film technology has evolved, and highlighting that tried and tested methods of the past are still effective today.
The short animation celebrates how storytellers, inventors, and technology all come together to produce cinema magic. Watching it, you can’t help but be immersed in the fantasy and atmosphere of adventure that the film conveys. State-of-the-art techniques, compelling storylines and creative ideas all combine to create an enthralling animation without even using words.
Music and Sound
Music and sound effects are crucial instruments in this movie, adding excitement and suspense and drawing viewers in to the animated world.
“Sound is one of those things now that really binds you into that world (of movies),” William Joyce of Moonbot studios said. “It envelops you completely. It takes you from the flat plain in front of you to literally surrounding you. There’s nothing else like it.”
Accompanying your animation with inspirational sounds can foster any emotion or tone you wish. They can help to make your animated film humorous without the use of words, or they can create a sense of terror or suspense in a horror film.
Even without music, an animated video without words can be incredibly powerful.
Below is an effective silent animation, which has an interesting storyline, conveying a very strong point about employment and society. You can’t help but watch to the end.
Marketing with Silent Animation
An animated video without words or a voiceover is unusual and can capture imaginations. This can make them ideal for marketing new products and raising awareness of concepts and ideas.
An animated advert which inspires viewers purely through moving images and sound effects is easy and entertaining to watch. These videos avoid overwhelming consumers and focus on conveying a positive tone and message. In this way, you can clearly express the brand image you wish.
Simple animations like this can be incredibly engaging, encouraging viewers to watch them to the end and make a conversion.
Although these silent animations are not ideal for all purposes, they can work well in many advertisements and even simple explainer videos.
When thinking about a storyline for your animated marketing video, consider whether it could be achieved without words – you may be pleasantly surprised at the positive effect this style could have.
When combined with creative ideas and modern techniques, silent animations can make even more of a mark than animations with words. If you would like to discuss your ideas for an animated video with a member of our production team, please give us a call on 0208 891 2077.
