And even more importantly,\nwhether it\u2019s working well for you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So let&#8217;s get going&#8230;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TIP 1: MAKE SURE YOU ADD THE WORD &#8216;VIDEO&#8217;\nIN YOUR SUBJECT LINE<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the simplest things you can do to\nimprove the performance of your campaign is add the word &#8216;video&#8217; in the subject\nline of your mail shot when you are including a video in it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Making this one little change will almost\ncertainly improve your email open rates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to HubSpot, adding the word\n&#8216;Video&#8217; to your subject line of your mail shot results in a 19% increase in\nyour email open rates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Impressive right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In our very own experience here at Spiel,\nthrough A\/B testing, we&#8217;ve found that whenever we add the word &#8216;video&#8217; to our\nsubject line, our mail shot open rate improves by about 25%. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So make sure you do the same every time you\nadd a video to you mail shot. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s quick, simple and almost guaranteed to\nimprove your campaign\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TIP 2: USE THUMBNAILS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A common mistake people make when adding a\nvideo to their mail shot is to add it as a clickable link with some generic\ntext like &#8216;Click here to watch this video&#8217;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, this isn&#8217;t a good way to get the\nmost out of your video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A much better approach, which gets\napproximately 3 times as many people clicking your video, is to use a thumbnail\nimage link to your video, as opposed to a generic text link.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Again this simple tweak to your campaign\nwill almost certainly improve its performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TIP 3: DON&#8217;T EMBED YOUR VIDEOS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A question we get asked often is: \u201cshould I\nembed my videos directly in my mail shots?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Embedding a video directly in your email\nbasically means that your video is present straight away for your subscriber to\nwatch with just one click, rather than having to open a new browser to watch\nit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, although this may on the face of\nit seem great, it does come with some significant disadvantages. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main one being that this feature\nrequires that your subscribers client email supports HTML 5&#8230;..and a lot of\nemail clients still don&#8217;t do this. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So if you choose this option, it is likely\na significant proportion of your subscribers won&#8217;t be able to view your video. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This may change in the future but at the\ntime of filming this video, HTML 5 support is an issue for many email clients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So rather than worry about whether your\nsubscribers\u2019 email client will allow them to watch your video or not, I would\nsuggest that you simply place a thumbnail image in the body of your email with\na play icon on it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This thumbnail, once clicked, will lead\nthem to a landing page with your video. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although this adds one extra step for your\nsubscriber to watch your video, at least you have the assurance that all your\nsubscribers will be given the opportunity to watch it <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, if your subscribers have to visit\nyour landing page to watch you video, it\u2019s easier for you to convert them to\ncustomers, compared with video embedded in your email. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is because your viewers will already\nbe on your website and exposed to surrounding call-to-actions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TIP 4: DON\u2019T AUTOPLAY<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When your subscribers arrive on your\nlanding page to watch your video&#8230;&#8230;.should you autoplay it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although some marketers use this technique\nto maximise the number of views they get, in most cases, I don&#8217;t recommend it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most people, as you know, don&#8217;t want your\nvideo to be forced upon them but rather be given the choice as to whether to\nwatch it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although you may get a few more views if\nyou autoplay your video, in the long run, it will annoy your subscribers and\nlead to more of them unsubscribing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So my advice would be to avoid autoplay so\nthat you maintain credibility with your subscribers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead focus your efforts on creating\ngreat content that they are compelled to watch, regardless of autoplay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TIP 5: ADD A CALL TO ACTION<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To make sure your video gives you the best\nbang for your buck and drives conversions, make sure you include a call to\naction both in your video and on that landing page associated with it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your call to action should be clear,\nrelevant and easy to follow. For a more detailed guide on the how to create\ngreat call to actions for your videos, you can check out our dedicated video on\nthis topic, the link to which I have included in the description below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TIP 6: CONSIDER YOUR PLATFORM<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important that you think about the\nright video hosting platform for the videos that you include in your mail\nshots. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hosting platform you choose should\nbasically be determined according to your goals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If for example your goal is to grow your\nYouTube channel, you should host your videos on YouTube. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As your mailing list subscribers then view\nyour videos, this will help boost your video\u2019s watch time. This is an important\nfactor that YouTube takes into account when ranking a video in its search\nengine, leading to more visibility on the platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If on the other hand, the primary goal of\nyour video is to drive conversions, consider using a hosting platform such as\nWistia which comes with great analytics and built in call to action features to\nhelp you capture more leads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I hope you found the tips in this video useful.
