The other half is how you promote\nyour videos on your landing pages. If you don&#8217;t do this correctly, you won&#8217;t\nreap the full benefits of all the hard work you put into creating your video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However,\nthe good news is that in this video, I&#8217;ll provide you with my 10 best practices\nwhich, if you follow, you are virtually guaranteed to get the most out of your\nlanding page videos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But\nbefore we begin make sure you like, share and subscribe to our channel, so that\nas we keep releasing more videos to help you with your video marketing, you get\nnotified. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also,\nin the comments below, let me know which of the tips I mention in this video is\nyour personal favourite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So\nlet&#8217;s get started&#8230;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TIP\n1: PUT YOUR VIDEO &#8216;ABOVE THE FOLD&#8217;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.hubspot.com\/marketing\/chartbeat-website-engagement-data-nj\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"According to HubSpot (opens in a new tab)\">According to HubSpot<\/a>, &#8217;55 percent of visitors spend less than 15 seconds on your website&#8217; and so you have a very short space of time to grab their attention and engage them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So,\nif you want the maximum number of visitors on your landing page to view your\nvideo, you need to make sure it appears as high as possible on your page. In\nother words, it needs to appear &#8216;Above the Fold&#8217; which means your viewers\nshould ideally be able to view your video without having to scroll down your landing\npage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This\nsimple best practice is probably the most important thing you can do to\nmaximise your videos play rate, so make sure you take it into consideration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TIP\n2: CREATE AN ENGAGING THUMBNAIL<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As\nthey say, first impressions matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If\nyour thumbnail isn&#8217;t engaging, people are not really going to be that inspired\nto watch your video, no matter how great the actual content is. So make sure\nyou put the effort into creating a great thumbnail that hooks your visitors and\ncompels them to watch your video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On\nour channel we have a dedicated video on how to create high conversion\nthumbnails so rather than me repeating that whole video here, I have included a\nlink to it in the description below. So make sure you check it out after you\nfinish watching this video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TIP3:\nHAVE VISUAL CUES POINTING TO YOUR VIDEO<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Directional\nvisual cues can greatly increase the play rate of your videos as they prompt us\nto subconsciously follow the direction being suggest by the cue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Examples\nof good visual cues include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An arrow or object\npointing towards the video on your landing page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A person gazing at the\nvideo on your landing page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Using colour contrast to put more emphasis on your video. For example\nmaking your thumbnail bright and noticeable and the surrounding area duller in\ncomparison will prompt your visitors to focus their attention on your video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TIP4: AVOID AUTOPLAY<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Have you ever visited a web page where a video started\nplaying automatically which annoyed you so much that you ended up exiting the\npage?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well you&#8217;re not alone here, as this has happened to\nmost of us. Which is why I would suggest you avoid auto playing your videos. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though I personally fully appreciate how great\nyour videos are, it is likely that most of your website visitors will still\nvalue their free will and would prefer to be given a choice as to whether to\nwatch your videos, instead of them being forced upon them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If,\nhowever, you are really keen on auto playing your videos, as a minimum, at\nleast test this versus a &#8216;press to play&#8217; option to see if it actually improves\nconversions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TIP\n5: ADD SUBTITLES <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Not\neveryone has their volume on when they come across your video. They could on a\ntrain, in a quiet environment or anywhere else where they simply would prefer\nnot to put the volume up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In\nsuch cases, just having subtitles in your videos will boost the engagement of\nyour videos greatly and won&#8217;t exclude people who don&#8217;t want to put the volume\non.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\ncan get subtitles for your videos done cheaply and quickly at Rev.com so make\nsure you check them out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TIP\n6: KEEP YOUR VIDEOS SHORT<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As\na rule of thumb, if your goal is to drive conversions, you should make the\nvideos that you add to your website as short and concise as possible. People\nhave short attention spans and with each passing second, a certain percentage\nof your viewers will be dropping off. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A comprehensive study conducted by <a href=\"https:\/\/wistia.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Wistia (opens in a new tab)\">Wistia<\/a> found that if your viewers watch your video for the first 30 seconds, they are likely to keep watching it until the 2 minute mark, after which engagement will likely start dropping again sharply. So if your message is relatively short, try to keep it to two minutes or less. If it needs to be longer than this, that&#8217;s ok, provided you don&#8217;t drag on unnecessarily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If\nyou are interested in a more detailed breakdown of the Wistia study I just\nmentioned, we have done a dedicated video on just this topic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In\nthe description below, I have included a link to this video so feel free to\ncheck it out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TIP\n7: HOST YOUR VIDEO ON THE RIGHT PLATFORM<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure you think about the best platform to host your landing page video on. Hosting platforms like Wistia and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brightcove.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Brightcove (opens in a new tab)\">Brightcove<\/a> are great if you are looking for in-depth analytics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vimeo\nis great if you are looking for a hosting platform which looks good\naesthetically and provides a more professional feel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And\nthen of course you can just host your video on YouTube which may be your\npreferred option if you want to grow your video\u2019s watch time on YouTube, which\nin turn boosts its reach on the platform. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In\naddition, hosting on YouTube is free and YouTube will provide you with detailed\nanalytics to help you assess your video\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TIP\n8: INCLUDE A CLEAR CALL TO ACTION<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If\nyour visitors don&#8217;t know what you want them to do, you can&#8217;t expect them to do\nit. That&#8217;s why having a clear call to action is an absolute must. Your call to\naction should be short, relevant and easy to understand and appear not only in\nyour video but also on your landing page near your video to maximise the\nchances that your website visitors take action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TIP\n9: STICK TO ONE MESSAGE<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If\nyour goal is to drive conversions, you shouldn&#8217;t overcomplicate your landing\npage video by trying to get many different messages across in it. Each video\nthat you add to a landing page on your website should have one specific\nobjective to accomplish and its content should be built around this. If you\nhave multiple messages such as different products or services to promote, it is\nbetter to create multiple smaller videos and add them to the most relevant\nlanding pages as opposed to having one lengthy video which tries to cover\neverything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nsaying &#8216;If you try chasing two rabbits, you&#8217;ll catch none&#8217; really does apply\nhere&#8217; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TIP\n10: TEST TEST TEST<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As\nyou may know by now, here at Spiel we are huge fans of testing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No\nmatter, how good you think your video thumbnail, landing page design or video\ncontent is, if you don&#8217;t A\/B test them in real time, you won&#8217;t know for sure\nwhat work best.
